[Melissa + Charlie]
The Abbey Resort
Melissa and Charlie attended the same high school but never seemed to cross paths. The two of them officially connected at a mutual friends 4th of July party freshman year of college. They were friends for about 6 months before they started dating.
Biggest challenge from planning your wedding?
Engaged in September, we decided to get married the following October. Even though 13 months seemed like plenty of time we quickly found ourselves pressed to make decisions as many vendors book up real quick. It seemed so stressful at the time, but at the end of the day, the process went smoothly and it was totally worth it.
What made you decide on the Abbey Resort?
Growing up Melissa and her family spent most weekends in Lake Geneva; it was their "home away from home". For that reason, Lake Geneva is near and dear to her heart. Getting married there fulfilled her childhood dream. We chose the Abbey Resort for many reasons - located right on the lake, hotel rooms onsite, awesome food, comfortable venue, large ballroom ( 250+ guests) and the church was just down the street.
What was your favorite song from the dancing portion?
Our DJ, Rick, was spectacular. The music was awesome all of the reception. Our favorite was the last song of the night - Piano Man. All of our guests formed a circle around us, joined arms, and swayed side to side as we slow danced together. During the last 60 seconds of the song everyone moved to the middle of the dance floor and formed a "group hug" as we danced the rest of the night away. The moment was so special and so emotional, all of our loved ones together with us on the best night of our lives.
Favorite wedding day memory?
Walking down the aisle, seeing all of our loved ones gathered to support us was so awe inspiring. But, we both agree, finally making it past the crowd of people and making eye contact with each other for the first time was a memory and feeling we'll hold on to the rest of our lives.
Do you have any wedding planning advice for other couples?
The best advice we have for other couples is simple. Decide what's really important to you, make it a priority on the "to do" list, and focus on those priorities. Try not to dwell on little things that aren't important to you. And once you've completed a task, move on and don't look back. At the end of the day, everything WILL fall into place. And of course , ENJOY THE DAY! It goes by fast, but will be the best day of your lives. If you're anything like us, you'll look at each other the next day and say "that was so much fun, I wish we could go back in time and do it all over again!" Try to embrace it while you can.
